La perception catégorielle des différences intéressant les échelles modales par des enfants libanais de 6 à 12 ans

Abstract : The semiotic modal theory introduces an analytic apprehension of the traditional monodies from the Orient of the underlying phonological categorization of pitches that is highly hierarchical. Thus, this distinctive categorization highlights two competing chains of third, one of which is primary associated with the final modal, and the other secondary dissociated from this final modal. One of the consequences of this generativist apprehension of the pitches is that it makes it possible to relativize their variations by introducing the notion of melodic allophonic variation, in other words, a limited variation of pitch which does not involve a change of musical phoneme, and that of melodic phonemic variation, that is to say a sufficient variation of pitch to induce a change of musical phoneme. This is accompanied with a categorization that concerns the modal scale as a whole. This is along with the distinction made between the several musical fundamental modes traditions of the Orient, in a limited number, on one hand, and, on the other hand, the multitude of modes derived from each of them. This derivation leads to a semiotic assimilation of derivatives with their foundations. Therefore, these considerations push the musical analyst to relativize the melodic phonological differences that exist between the modal scales. Thus, this research seeks to demonstrate the semiotic categorization of the phonological differences of the modals which are reflected in the cognitive perception of these Lebanese children aged 6 to 12 years. Validation of this hypothesis is based on an experimental statistical study of this age group of 154 Lebanese children in the public school sector.
